Health Scholars is a medical innovation company whose mission is to advance healthcare simulation through virtualization, making experience-based training accessible, scalable, affordable, and measurable for public health and safety professionals to help reduce medical errors and improve patient safety.
The project given to us was to develop a business case for a new generation of learning management system (LMS) that fully integrates virtual reality (VR) to enhance learning management. At first, my team researched on existing products and learned what Health Scholars has to offer. Completing that step resulted in the creation of a questionnaire outline that will be used to interview customers. The second step was conducting hundreds of cold calls and emails inviting eligible participants to sit with us for an interview or fill out a questionnaire. We encountered a diminished response rate which was due to most of our participants are active healthcare professionals preoccupied with the pandemic. Thankfully, we still received enough answers to conduct a viable study due to the high volume of contacts we made initially. Interviewees were vetted regarding their current experience with simulation training, problems encountered, expectations from a new system, preferred acquisition methods, and affordable price points.
I classified the interview data in Microsoft Excel to discover patterns and trends, and performed both qualitative and quantitative analysis on sentiments, product preference, and price preference. These became vital contents for the final recommendations presentation that we gave to the President of Health Scholars, Dr. Brian Gillett. We also documented our entire approach, findings and recommendations in a final report to be referenced by Health Scholars.
